Course Requirements

FIREARM AND AMMUNITION REQUIREMENTS: Any modern, safe and functioning handgun is allowed however NO magnum calibers are allowed.  If for an example you have a .357 magnum revolver please bring 38 special ammunition with you.  NO tracer, armor piercing, or non-solid bullets such as bird shot are allowed. Factory new ammunition is required, NO reloaded ammunition.

We suggest bringing 100 rounds of approved ammunition for your firearm.  You will be firing a minimum of 60 rounds in this class.  Live fire portions of this class will be conducted in strings of 10 rounds.

Please be sure to have additional magazines for reloading.  If you have a revolver or semi auto handgun that holds less than 10 rounds in the magazine please have additional magazines or speed loaders to complete the course of fire.

NO FIREARMS OR AMMUNITION ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOM! We have a zero tolerance policy, you will be asked to leave and no refund will be offered.  Please help us insure the safety of all attendees by respecting and following our policies.

FIREARM TRANSPORTATION AND HANDLING WHILE AT THE RANGE: All firearms need to be transported from your vehicle in the parking lot to the range in an enclosed case.  NO gun handling will be allowed outside of designated safe areas or while participating in range activates under the direct supervision of one of our RTG Range Masters.  Upon arrival at the range DO NOT handle your firearm at or around your vehicle or at any time until you are instructed by our staff.  We know everyone is excited for the shooting portion of the class; we will give you step by step instructions to follow so please be patient.  Again we have a zero tolerance policy, you will be asked to leave and no refund will be offered.  Please help us insure the safety of all attendees by respecting and following our policies.

SAFETY AND ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT REQUIRED: All students will be required to have the following equipment to participate in the range portion of this class.

Safety glasses that provide eye protection for frontal and side impacts from brass or other debris.

Ear Protection such as disposable plugs, ear muffs or electronic ear muffs are acceptable choices.  We recommend electronic ear protection however not required.  Please be sure your choice of ear protection allows you to hear safety and range commands while on the range.

Hat such as a baseball cap worn with the bill forward is required while on the range.  While this may not seem like a piece of safety equipment it will aid in protecting your face and eyes from hot brass.

Pants or Shorts with belt loops to fit your belt. Also of a material to support the weight of your handgun (gym shorts, dresses, skirts etc. are poor or non-functioning choices).

Shirts that are closed at the top i.e. t-shirt, polo, button up shirts. V-neck, tank top or other open/low cut shirts should be avoided.  Hot brass from your fellow shooters not only burns but can likely leave a scar.

Shoes we suggest shoes that are well suited for outdoor activities.  Dress shoes, western boots, flip flops etc. are not suggested.

Clothing suitable for all weather conditions is recommended.  The range activities will be outdoors and will take place rain or shine, hot or cold!  Please have clothing suitable for current weather conditions.  It is always easier to take layers off then be outside wishing you had them!  Rain gear is highly suggested.  It is Illinois after all; be prepared for all weather conditions!
